I recently received an email stating that even though I applied early action for SUNY New Paltz, I am being taken out and reviewed for general admission. Why would they choose to do this? What does this mean? Will this hurt my chances of getting in?

Maybe they didn’t get all the parts of your application on time? Or were you just deferred?

Sounds like you were deferred. Were your stats borderline?

I was never sent a letter of deferral, the only information I received was an email requesting my mid-year grades. My stats are as follows:

86 Average with 7 APs (All with passing exam grades so far, one 3 and three 4s)
1150 SAT (520 Math, 630 Critical Reading)
Extra curriculars: Drama club (4 years) Mock Trial (3 years, now president) LEAD (3 years) Model UN (2 years) Diversity Club (2 years) GSA (2 years, now president) 2 part time jobs and a government internship.
3 Great letters of recommendation and an essay I was fairly confident in.

Any advice I can get would be much appreciated!

I agree: it sounds like you got deferred. Your best bet is to call the admissions office for a clear answer.

Yup - you were deferred. You will most likely get a letter in the mail in a few days, unless SUNY New Paltz has declared itself a sustainable campus: in that case, they will not kill the tree.

How can I improve my chances of being accepted the second time around?
