Please help... I actually already submitted my application for SUNY New Paltz early action, but I could call their admissions office and have them hold on to it for regular decision. Anyways these are my stats:
GPA: 88 (not weighed)
SAT: math 620 reading 610 and writing 670 so math/reading = 1230
I have a bunch of extra curriculars and I also have a lot of work experience and community service and hopefully good recommendations. The New Paltz representative that came to my school said that applying early action may not be a good idea if you are borderline? My GPA is borderline. I really want to apply early action and get in though. And I dont know how good my senior year 1st semester grades will be if I change to regular decision and send them. What should I do... New Paltz is one of my top choices.

SUNY New Paltz is rolling admissions, so what does applying early action actually do for you?

My son is a transfer student there, so if you have any questions about the school feel free to ask.

I guess it lets you know even earlier? Plus what if my first semester grades arent too great.

With rolling admissions you should get a decision about 3 weeks after you submit your application. At that time they will still not have your first semester grades. You will have to send them, but they won’t count in the decision. However, you need to keep up a similar gpa throughout your senior year or they do have the ability to revoke the decision if your gpa falls significantly.

I attend New Paltz so feel free to ask any questions you may have!

Okay! Do you think that I can get in to new paltz early action?

Early Action at times can be a detriment, as the criteria can be higher during the early action process…call the admissions office, speak to a rep there and try to get a candid answer to your question with your stats - your GPA is definately on the border…should be able to gain admission however - your tests scores are good - get good recommendations.

I’m not sure, I didn’t apply EA! Applying EA isn’t necessary for most of the SUNYs. It looks like you have a good chance at RD acceptance. The only benefit of applying early is housing. This year, people that had finished applications by November 11 didn’t have to be in a triple. I’m not sure how important that is for you though!

We were just at an informational session/tour of New Paltz this past week. They said that EA will find out by Jan 1 and Regular by Jan 15th. If you are borderline then apply regular decision. If you apply EA at New Paltz and dont get in, they do not put you in the regular pool. (Other SUNYs do). They did not say anything about rolling admission. Maybe rolling is only for transfer students. Not sure how housing is effected by this process. They didn’t mentioned anything about it.

nycmom10 - I’m surprised New Paltz didn’t mention that they have rolling admissions. How did you like your visit? If you have a minute, you can post about it in the college visits section. :)

SUNY New Paltz has an early action deadline of November 15th this year. I also applied early action.

I know Binghamton has rolling but no early action and Geneseo has ED this year.

Apply EA…
