Frowned upon because: it is easier in the sense that you don’t have 3/4 other courses to worry about; it isn’t as rigorous as during the school year - at least at my university, the summer session students don’t even perform half of the labs; and taking ochem in the summer means that you are ONLY taking ochem during your summer - you don’t have time for anything else whether it be EMTing, shadowing, volunteering, whatever - that is, if you want to do well, since it will require studying everyday after 3 hours of lecture 5 days straight, and 4 hours of lab 2 out of those 5 days.

IMO, do not do. However, if you HAVE to - as in there is no way to schedule it in otherwise - then I guess you would HAVE to.

The only reason it may be frown upon is if you take it at a lesser institution.

not true at all. it doesn’t matter, as long as it’s not at a CC. take it at a 4-year school and you’ll be fine.

sunfish has it right. For the most part, it would only affect you negatively if it was taken at another institution, particularly a less prestigious (local college) school.

EDIT: Not any 4-year college. Medical schools would recognize at least the above average schools (like Virginia Tech) and up (and I would bet they recognize schools lower as well). So if you go to a great school (UVa), and you take your summer courses at a good school (GMU), adcoms would very likely question that.

OChem in the summer, like most summer classes, tends to be less difficult. That would be part of the stigma of taking it in the summer, that you are doing so to make it easier to do well. I would recommend taking at least one Ochem class during the fall or spring, but no one is going to cut your head off if you take one in the summer from a reputable university so long as you do well in both semesters.

Good luck balancing condensed ochem1/2 plus anything else.
