Taking 3 Arts Classes Senior Year - How will this look to colleges?

Hello, I’m going into my Senior Year of High School, with my intention being to go to university for a science major (Between Medical Research, Engineering, and Computer Science, still deciding). During my senior year, in addition to my AP classes, I’m taking 3 Band Classes. 2 of them for myself, and one to help younger students learn their instrument. I’m wondering if those 3 classes would reflect negatively on me when going for a science major?

To put it in more perspective, my school requires 3 science credits to graduate, and I will graduate with 6 (Honors Biology, AP Biology, Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Honors Physics, Engineering). My only standard level core class is in Mathematics, though I get high As in those standard level math classes. I am also in many science related clubs, (Robotics/Engineering, Programming, HOSA, Sci. Oly, etc…)

To restate, would these 3 band classes reflect negatively on me when I try to enter a school’s medical or engineering college?

Provided your guidance counselor can write that you have pursued the most challenging program your school offers, the whole rest of your schedule could be band. Don’t worry about this.

^^ I disagree
IF you want to be considered for acceptance by colleges with Engineering programs and IF your HS offers an AP Physics class , I STRONGLY suggest you take it your SR year, perhaps instead of AP Bio.
.
All 3 of these majors -Medical Research, Engineering, and Computer Science,
will require many Physics classes in College and you will be doing yourself a favor by taking an AP Physics class to better prepare yourself once you get there.
You will be strengthening your application by doing so as well.

Why do you have to take 3 band classes? I can somewhat understand you taking 2 since you are teaching but 3 band classes is excessive especially since they are the same… You need physics, it will help a lot.

What other classes will you be taking? Do you have all of the same academic classes you had in prior years? If you have a full slate of at least five challenging academic classes and just have extra electives it is probably fine, but if you have dropped academic subjects to make way for extra arts classes it may be considered a light schedule which is generally frowned upon.

I’m a math/CS major who went to a well known STEM magnet high school. I took 7 music classes over the course of my high school years, 3 of which were senior year (wind ensemble, jazz band, and AP music theory). I didn’t have any problem with it with my apps. I think it made me stand out more because nobody even remembers the last time someone did this or if it ever happened before at my school.

As long as you have fulfilled other standard requirements and prerequisites in English/Humanities, Social Sciences, and Foreign Languages, then it shouldn’t be a problem.

My other classes are Precalculus, AP Biology, AP Literature, and AP Macroeconomics. Im not dropping any core classes that I had Junior year, except I’d be taking one fewer science course.
