'Taking a Break'

I have a question for all you college buffs..

Can I Attend one or two years at a university, then leave for a couple years to join the military...Can I come back and resume my studies? Will the university re accept me??

Please do not bolster me or try to convince me to not join the army, It's something I have to do.. I just wanted to get the freshman dorm experience.. I'm plannin on doing my lower division (Freshman and sophmore) at San Diego State.. After I finish the lower division courses, I want to go join the military. I just want to know if they will take me back and let me finish my upper division?

There will probaly be 4 years between my sophmore and junior year.

Please help!

Thanks.

God bless America

Why don't you try deferred enrollment instead? Go join the military before your freshman year for a year or two.

Still, go check individual colleges for policies.

Well, with the army, it's hard to find a contract that's short (I looked into enlisting as well). Most technical jobs require a 4-6 year commitment.

With that said, if you aren't lucky to get a short contract, you're probably looking at applying for re-admission. Sure, it's more of a hassle than just doing a "defer" but it isn't that bad. You already were admitted once and proved you could handle the work. (Plus, a lot schools don't require the second application fee :) )

Another option: Has your recruiter told you about ConAp? Not many schools do this, but you could possibly be (re-)admitted to college at the time of your contract.

Why dont you just do ROTC? you will complete college and earn a commision as a 2nd LT. Thats what im going to be doing at norwich U

Ignore my original post.. It's a 30 month service in the IDF. So instead of telling me my other options, Is it possible to simply leave for 30 months after a year or two and come back?

better contact the admissions department.
