Taking a gap year to earn money for college

I'm an int'l student who got into Cornell, but received no fin aid. I'm really worried about paying for college, and I think I'll prob have like $150,000-200,000 debts by the time I will graduate from Cornell. I really love to attend Cornell, but I really don't think I can afford this university. I was not very bright enough to get admitted to HYP with fin aid.

Do you guys think I should deffer an admission for one year (like a gap year) and work my butt off to earn some money? I'm thinking of reserving a spot at the Cornell class of '11 by sending my deposit money and apply to some other schools (lesser schools that will give int'l students some kind of merit scholarship or something) w/ fin aid? If I got into some place with fin aid, I'll go to that school, but if I don't, can I still go to Cornell for the class of '11? I'm seriously considering this option.

I'd appreciate any kind of advice. Thank you.

yeah what is the policy on deferrals?

how much money do u project you'll be able to earn by taking a gap year?i
would take the debt and get a great job after to pay it off. having that much debt from student loans isn't abnormal, many of people including U.S. citizens have that kinda debt

I am not sure but I think I read somewhere that if you deffer our admission to an institution you are not allowed to apply to other institions in the interim. I think it is a contract similar to that of ED. Were you placed on the waiting list for financial aid? If so there is still a chance you could get aid. Well I wish you the best

See the problem is that even if you've got a permit to work in the US, you will never make $100,000 a year, let alone the full cost of ~$170,000. In fact, many college graduates do not earn that much, so you forget about this kind of sallary while you are still an undergraduate.
There is an option of taking a loan (see http://www.iefc.com), but personally I am quite pesimistic about taking such an enourmous loan, cuz sooner or later it will have to be paid back; plus as an international you will need a co-signer.

What do you mean you haven't been given finaid? Didn't they place you on a finaid waitlist?
