Taking a summer course at the community college

Currently I'm a sophomore in Advanced Algebra, which is a year ahead in math at our school. There are about 2 dozen people taking precalculus as a sophmore, which is 2 years ahead. I really want to catch up with my weighted ranking, so I really want to take Precalculus at the local community college this summer.

I asked my teacher about it, and he said that it is not a good idea because instead of 9 months of education at the high school, I only get 3 months of not so closely monitored education of a very hard topic that is suppose to really prepare me for Calculus - which is without a doubt a very hard class.

If I want to take Calculus next year, should I take this, self-study it, or not even take it at all and just forget about skipping a grade in math?

Take the class at CC. It will give you a leg up either way. If, after a few weeks of Calculus, you are behind, move back to PreCal in HS.

precalculus is a joke... its basically a review of advanced algebra- the calculus topics covered in pre-calc are so basic that you could teach urself the concepts instead of going to even CC
