hey guys…i have no idea how the train system works, so i need a little help. =)

i know that you could take the train from NY Penn station to boston or something…do any of you know anything about it?

Check the Amtrak website for trains that run between NY’s Penn Station and either Back Bay and/or South Station in Boston. From there you can get on the T to go to Boston College (although you’ll have to transfer at least once because the Green T Line – which serves BC – doesn’t go to the train stations.

well if you’re taking the train from penn station to south station, here is what you can do:

1)arrive at south station
2)take the inbound red line at south station and transfer to the green line at park street (2 stops)
3) For your purposes, at park street, take the B line all the way to the end to Boston College. There is an alternative way, but it’ll get too confusing. Hopefully you’ll learn it as you become more acquainted with the school.

Simple stuff here:

Buy a ticket from Penn Station to Boston South Station

South Station is a T stop on the red line. Take the red line towards Alewife until you hit Park Street. Get off at Park Street and either take the B line to the end (Boston College), or the D line to Riverside until you hit Reservoir.

Note B and D lines refer to the GREEN line.

Make sure you sign up for the AMTRAK student discount ticket. I have one of those. you can sign up online and you get a big discount on trainfares.

thank you guys so much for all ur help!!! i really appreciate it. =)

doonvarn- the student discount ticket requires u to give them an email address that must end in .edu…i’m senior in high school still though…so i guess i wouldn’t be able to purchase the card yet?

I use my high school email address

just to be sure, u have to pay for the card right? it’s like a membership that u need to purchase…

yes the card costs 20/year. I saved more than that when I used it to do college visits.

guys, are there any buses that go from ny to boston??? cuz i was looking at the schedule on amtrak and the latest return trip they have is around 12 at noon…kinda strange…

greyhound, boltbus, megabus.
fungwah, luck star (chinese companies)

there are plenty ;)

thanks miragemage! i’m probably gonna use fungwah in chinatown…it’s only 15 per person…!!

Be very careful about using the Chinese buses. They are cheap for a reason! The buses are not well maintained. My son and his friend were left stranded next to the freeway when their bus broke down. It was late at night and it was cold and dark out. The driver left to “call the company” and never returned. My son said he would never use it again.

Son is a frosh at BC and has used the Bolt Bus several times. Leaves from 34th and 8th in NYC and ends at South Station. So far, the buses have been clean, on time and very reasonable.

There’s also a private bus company that goes from BC to the Bloomingdales parking lot in White Plains. If you are a BC student in the area, they’ll email you. It’s much more convenient if you live in the northern suburbs

omg lol now i’m kinda scared :/

I’ve taken the fungwah plenty of times with no major problems. I mean, there always is greyhound ($20), boltbus ($15), and megabus (maybe 15).

worried_mom: hmm, not too sure about the maintenance of the bus on fungwah’s part. someone wrote a research paper on this and apparently Fungwah’s buses are better maintained than greyhound’s; the difference is in the driver.
