Taking ACT Spring of Sophomore Year?

I would definitely recommend taking it, even if the scores aren’t great. Regardless of the scores, I believe that even just taking it in the actual setting provides essential feedback that can be translated into a study plan for early next year, or even the next spring if she needs it! I actually just took the ACT in April as a sophomore. However, I also am enrolled in H. Precalculus/Trig right now which allowed me to understand all the material on the entire test. I ended up getting a 33 composite (34 english, 35 math). For me, this will DEFINITELY reduce the stress of junior year as I don’t have to worry about the studying. In terms of colleges, I actually talked to my college counselor about the same question before I took the ACT. She assured me that colleges want to see the best that you can perform and will actually disregard the lowest test scores, as a way of getting the best picture of the student. From what she told me, the reason some colleges want all of the test scores is to choose from the best sections of each test. This actually benefits students as they don’t have to worry as much about bad sections on particular days. Though this is not true of all colleges, I wouldn’t worry about potentially bad sophomore scores as it is only a very small component of the entire college admissions process and acceptance or rejection decision. Good luck!
