i am behind by 1 year in math, i will be a senior this coming fall and will have to take both Algebra 2 and precalc, is it a challenge taking both these classes? Is it stressfull? Is it bad ( as in not a good idea) to take both these classes?

I had to do that exact thing this year. It’s challenging especially since you need to have a firm grasp in algebra II to do well in Precalc. I found myself listening to the class lecture on say logs in Precalc, come home not understanding them because I hadn’t been exposed to them and self-teaching myself the material so that I wouldn’t be so lost in class which, in the end, took alot of time and detracted from my homework quality. My GPA went down because of it. I suppose it is ‘doable’ but you’ll have to work harder than your classmates who have already taken algebra II.

From personal experience, I wouldn’t recommend it, especially since you’re a senior and should be focusing on other things like financial aid and college applications.

It is certainly doable, but I promise that it will be extremely difficult. Algebra II is really important in order to successfully complete Precalc. Unless you’re super good at math, you might sacrifice your GPA a little. Instead, you could have asked your teachers if they would allow you to take an online or college course on Algebra II. I personally would not recommend it.

Pre-calculus isn’t that much harder than algebra 2; you’ll probably be learning logarithms, complex numbers, trig, matrices/determinants, partial fractions, etc. You definitely need a firm grasp in algebra II to do well in pre-calculus.

Overall, it is doable, but you should definitely make sure you understand all the concepts being taught before moving on.

You should take Algebra II Sophomore year and then, over the summer, test out (depends what your school does) of Pre-Calculus, so then come Junior year, you could probably take AP Calculus AB.

i am doing precalc this year, junior year. should i do calc AB over the summer and then BC senior year. also, any tips on doing well in precalc, i want to get an A in the class. what should i review in like the two days of summer that i have left?

Pre-calculus is mostly just a review of algebra 2, with more focus on trig, logarithms, complex numbers, and matrices, topics that you’ll commonly see in calculus (however the latter two you probably won’t see until multi-variable calculus).

You should have a solid understanding of algebra and geometry before taking pre-calculus.
