Taking Algebra II over the summer...important?

Hi, so I need advice quickly, because I must make a decision ASAP (classes begin on Monday). This is my situation: I did not take Honors math and science in my freshman year, so this summer, going into my junior year, I was planning on taking both Chemistry and Algebra II so that I could advance to AP Chem and H Precalc. It turns out that it's very difficult to take enrichment courses for credit in my area... each class costs around $700 and one of the classes is about half an hour away. Anyways, I'm wondering if you guys think that only taking Algebra II this summer and not taking Chemistry would hurt my application. In addition, do you think that taking Algebra II this summer is important, so that I can take AP Calculus in my senior year?

Don’t take chem if you don’t want to, it won’t hurt your application. AP Calc is sorta important, so if taking Alg II is the only way you can take Calc senior year, then I’d do it.

I would take Alg II so that you could take AP Calc senior yr.

Thanks a lot guys, that’s what I thought. :)

DEFINITELY take Algebra 2 over Chemistry. Honestly, AP Chem might be really difficult with just a summer course.

Some of the more competetive schools frown on applicants who take the hard sciences during the summer. Better off taking Alg. II (It does matter where you want to apply and what major, though).

I’ll be applying to 1 or 2 Ivies and some top LAC’s along with some other highly selective schools. I’m unsure about my major, but I’m leaning towards environmental science/studies and maybe journalism or communications. Thank you for the help!
