I am planning to transfer to another college, and would like to take a couple AP exams over to get credit this time around (I don't want to have to take or repeat any more introductory courses, plus, I just want to show myself that I have improved since taking those courses in high school.) My question is: are the two scores averaged or does the new score replace the old one?

new scores replace old ones

^ That's not true. Direct from collegeboard:

"You can take an AP Exam each time it is offered (AP Exams are offered once a year in May). Your grade report will include your grades for all the AP Exams you have taken, including yearly "repeats" of the same subject exam."

And another thing...

Can you take AP exams while in college?

I really doubt it. When you take the SAT, one of the registration questions asks you to state your grade, and there's a bubble for "graduated high school," or something along those lines. With AP, however, there isn't a bubble for any level of education past 12th grade, which could be a very subtle indicator that college students aren't permitted to take APs.

That's what I was thinking. (I was thinking of the bubbles too!)

Well, I once saw thread about where a international student that had graduated from high school was wondering if he could take AP exams, or at least I think that's how the story goes.

Basically, someone said that you can take AP exams even after you have graduated, so I think it would be good to check with the College Board.

Don't count on getting a definite answer from the College Board. You'll find that you're often more informed than they are.

christalena: Haha, maybe we share the same mind!

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I emailed collegeboard a few days ago and they gave me the following answers:

"AP Exams are administered to students at their high school. In accordance with AP Policy, no teacher or tutor may take an AP Exam. College and post-high school students may take the AP exam only if they can find a school willing to admit them. Only the college can let you know whether or not you can obtain credit for an AP exam."

And...

"AP scores are not averaged together. Repeated exams are just treated as different exams and you have the option of cancelling the lower score."

Sounds like there could possibly be a few complications, but still, pretty cool!
