Taking AP Exams in Middle School?

A girl in my biology class took AP Computer Science online in eighth grade. She took the exam last May and got a 4. Any opinions on this? Has anybody here done the same?

While rare, it is not unheard of. If the student knows the material, there is not reason not to take the exam.

Me.

@skieurope Nice, which one?

This just seems really silly. You should enjoy middle school. There is plenty of time for standardized exams once you get to high school :wink:

@awesomepolyglot Physics B and Music Theory

@skieurope Wow, Physics? What math were you in? And Music Theory is really hard at my school. That’s impressive.

@skieurope: interesting. The colleges have stated they did not require, and really do not expect , scores from students who took the SAT for talent programs, such as JHU’s CTY. When it comes to your early AP Scores, what did/will you do with those?

My son also took the AP Comp Science test in 8th grade. He’s in 11th now, but I believe he’ll just report them the regular way. My recollection is that they stay on the report for 4 years, and you can ask for an extension if you took one in 7th grade.

See the <9th Grade column here for the total number of middle school test takers for each test: https://secure-media.collegeboard.org/digitalServices/pdf/research/2015/Program-Summary-Report-2015.pdf

SAT scores from 8th grade and prior are wiped out by the College Board in June unless you specifically request that they not. AP scores, however, automatically remain on the report for 4 years unless you tell the CB to withhold them.

The AP score report is cumulative, so they were a part of my score report that I submitted to my college; I just submitted them as one would normally do. Not that it really mattered, as I received no credit for them, as my Physics score was superseded by my Physics C scores and my college does not give credit for Music Theory.
