For those of you who have block scheduling, do you have to take finals for that course, or does your school automatically give you an A for the final exam grade if you take the AP test?

Last year, my school had a 6 class rotating schedule, and for AP classes, if you took the AP test you'd get an A for the final. But now, with the 4X4 block, my school is saying they'll make it mandatory for everyone to take a final, regardless of whether you take the AP test or not.

So, do other schools with the block mandate a final for all AP courses too? And if not, what does your school do?

I'm not entirely sure since I haven't taken an AP yet (I'm in IB), but I think they just don't factor in a final. I'm pretty sure they just keep your course grade, since most of that is based on DBQ's or quizzes with test questions anyway.

I think, but I'm not positive, that my school requires you to, since we have a mandatory 10% of our grade final regardless of the class. They might make exceptions with AP though.

Most of my APs have required finals, I few teachers have mercy on your soul and exempt you from their exam if you take the AP exam (You have the option to take their final to try and increase your grade).

We're not on block scheduling, but if you care to know, last year

Calc AB: took a practice multiple choice section as a "final" after the AP test.
World History: took a practice AP test about a month before the AP test that counted as a final.

My school has a 4X4 block schedule. If we are taking AP tests, we usually get exempt from the 2nd semester final (we don't automatically get an A), but everyone has to take 1st semester finals regardless of AP courses or not. Occasionally, we get the mean teacher who gives us finals AND an AP test...but generally, nope, no final.

We have to take a "final," but it's not really final as it's before the AP exam (it's a mock exam; they want us to practice). We're on a 4-block semester schedule with yearlong APs.
