taking both SAT and ACT?

What is your advice on taking both the ACT and SAT?

I have a good 5 months to prepare for the SAT (december) and ACT during April of 2015.

Do you think that taking both tests and submitting whichever has the better score would have a good impression for the college i'm applying to? Because some colleges look for ACT writing etc... or SAT subject tests

thanks
(specifically towards Emory university)

Great plan! Take both and see whichever one you do better on. I would also plan your dates now, so that way you won’t run out of time (SAT and SAT subject tests are offered the same days and can’t both be taken at the same time) and will be able to retake if needed. And yes, absolutely take the ACT with Writing, even if one college doesn’t look at it, it will keep your options open. For the SAT, I would highly recommend studying vocab words, so by the time of the test you will be a vocab genius. Best of luck!

I’d take a few practice tests and see which you do better on first. It makes more sense to me than spending the time and studying for both. Then if one doesn’t work out particularly well, you could try the other. Some schools require ACT with writing or SAT with 2 subject tests. I don’t think Emory requires subject tests, but someone may have to fact check me on that because it’s been a while since I applied.

@235423‌ Thanks, I will keep your word for planning dates
@shawnspencer‌ Ohh okay, that’s a good idea. Could you provide me with a reliable ACT practice test, as I plan to take the SAT practice test on the Collegeboard website.

Oh and which college do you go to now ^.^

–
additional: if somebody could provide me with what emory requires, because I can’t seem to find it on their freshman admission page

Thanks!

I think the Real ACT book has some good practice tests! It is created the company that makes the test itself. I currently am an incoming student at W&M

Here’s the requirements for Emory: <a href=“How to Apply | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>http://apply.emory.edu/apply/requirements.php</a>
Specifically regarding standardized testing: <a href=“Standardized Exam Policies | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>http://apply.emory.edu/apply/exam.php</a></p>

@shawnspencer‌ Thanks, will order that ^-^

Also, I know that CR part of the SAT is specifically regarded as the most challenging for test-takers…

do you have any recommendation to the best book suitable to prepare for the CR section of the SAT?
thanks again

Uhhhhm, well I’m probably not the best person to ask. I thought the CR section was the easiest section of the SAT and did virtually no preparation for that section whatsoever. Main tips I guess are to just read often, look for context clues, process of elimination, and that the answer has to be explicitly in the text. Knowing some basic vocab definitely helps too!

@shawnspencer‌ Thanks, you’ve been of great help to me ^_^

Not a problem! Glad to help in any way I can

Take both!!
