Taking CC classes in HS?

After graduating, I plan on going to community college in hopes of transferring to a UC as early as possible. Is there any way I could start taking CC classes while still in high school to shorten my time at a community college?
sry if this is in the wrong forum

Sure, speak with your counselor to see if you can be dual enrolled while in HS. Just an FYI, make sure you are capable of getting good grades in these courses, since UC transferable courses will part of your transfer GPA.

I second @Gumbymom’s comment. You can take some while in hs but don’t overload. There are a lot of people up here who are dragging subpar CCC grades from high school that they’re stuck with. You need to report them all when you apply.

You sure can. I took 79 semester units of CC classes while in high school before transferring to UCLA, and this basically shed a year off of my degree which is awesome. (earned straight As in all of them) Just keep in mind that any CC classes you take while in HS will remain a part of your permanent college transcript which will be seen not only by the undergrad colleges you apply to, but also any grad school programs in the future if you choose to attend so this can either be really great if you get straight As or can be disastrous if you get poor grades

If you’re going into CS, a good strategy would be to take some of the beginning programming and computer classes that are transferable as credit to UC. Classes that are online that fulfill GE or breadth requirements are good candidates too.

For CA students, I believe there is a 11 semester unit max for each semesters during the school year, and 7 units in the summer. Principal approval is required, so it’s not like anyone can apply. As an example , my kid had 6 APs his senior year and wanted to take 2 more CCC classes and got nixed by the principal. (In retrospect he probably would be better off now taking the Multivariate Calc class at CCC rather than taking AP Stats or AP Psych but that’s not either here nor there.)

I wish I knew about this stuff during my junior year of high school. However, I enroll in cc while going to high school during my senior year.

As of now, my brother is taking classes at cc while going to high school and currently he is a sophomore at high school. Although, it was hard to get permission from the high school, smh they gave him permission. I would tell you to talk with your counselor and if they don’t allow it, it is probably cuz they want u to take that class from high school. High schools get money from students attending their schools, so for that kinda reasons they don’t want to see students taking classes outside of high school.

Just remember you can take classes at cc while going to high school. Also, when you take classes at cc, don’t play around with them as every class u take at cc counts toward ur admission to UC, all the grades u and units u earn at cc is going for university transfer or whatever the degree you gonna do.

One other thing to be aware of is that if you later apply to medical or law school, college courses taken while in high school will be included in the college GPA recalculation for applying to medical or law school. Prospective pre-med and pre-law students need to know that the quest for A or A+ grades starts with the first college course.
