So last year, my junior year, I took AP French. I did extremely well, receiving A+/A for 1st and 2nd semesters, respectively. I wanted to take French all four years of high school, but AP French was the highest level offered by my high school and my counselor said there were no alternatives. So I asked if I could just take AP French again just so I could stay proficient and further improve my speaking skills for college. My counselor said it was fine but mentioned that the grades I would get this year would, no matter what, override my amazing grades from last year. I wasn’t too worried I’d do terrible or anything, but wouldn’t want to replace those good grades. So I ended up signing up for the class, but pass/fail. So I still get credit but my grades don’t get overridden, and it will be indicated on my transcript that I took the class pass/fail. What I’m wondering is whether colleges will frown upon this choice to take the class pass/fail? Or will it be obvious I wanted to keep those good grades?
Repeating a class isn’t ideal. Do you have the option of taking a higher-level class at a local college?
No that isn’t an option. I was only given the option to take a lower level class since the closest CC only offers introductory French.
How about taking a study hall that class period and then sitting in on the AP French course? Would your school and teacher allow that?
I agree that you should not retake AP French. I think that would raise red flags on your application.
