Taking classes before you enroll?

Hello,
I was admitted to UMich into the College of Engineering recently and I am really excited to attend next fall!
In fact, I’m so excited that I actually want to start taking classes early. Is is possible to register as a non-degree undergraduate for the summer term and take 1 or 2 introductory classes (like chem 130 and such)? I took Calc III as a junior in high school so I already have a non-degree undergraduate file in their system. And even if this is possible, would you recommend this? I am a very ambitious student and I intend to major in biomedical engineering while simultaneously minoring in Business and taking pre-med classes, so this is why I want to start early (to graduate on time). Btw, I’m from Ann Arbor, so travel wouldn’t be an issue.
Thanks and Go Blue!

I don’t know about UMichigan but I asked UIUC admission officer the exactly same question, they said I can’t but they recommended me to take classes at my local community college during summer break and they will take the credits.

You should call the admissions office and see if you can register for summer half term. (July/Aug) I doubt that it will be a problem since you already are in the system and have an Mcard. The number of classes will be pretty limited, so I’d check the course catalog. You might be able to squeeze in a Physics or Chem class and differential equations. Either way you should talk to your engineering advisor when you register. Take the first freshman orientation you can (June) If you live in town AATA is free too.

The math sequence has been revamped and Diff Eq. is a lot harder that it was last year. :frowning:

You might consider taking Organic chemistry at Washtenaw or Eastern because they are a lot easier than at Michigan. You really, really want an “A” as a premed and that is not easy with the weeder setup at Michigan.
