Taking EECS 203/280 first semester?

How hard would this schedule be for a freshman CS major? I dual enrolled at my local CC, so some of the prerequisites, including EECS 183, were met.

EECS 203
EECS 280
STATS 250
PHIL 151

I spoke with a uMich LSA counselor and she recommended that I take some easier classes for my first semester. Is it really that bad?

By any chance, did you dual enroll at GRCC?

Definitely do able, but it doesn’t give you much time to get acquainted to college.

@ForeverAlone What classes would you recommend a freshman to take with OP’s schedule?

Probably just 203 and the rest of those other classes for first semester freshman year is okay. A lot of freshman take 280 second semester anyways.

Ok, so I’ll go with EECS 203, stats 250, phil 151, and another humanities/social science for the first semester. What should I take with 280 second semester?

For EECS 280, ENGR 101, 151, or EECS 183 are enforced prerequisites, meaning that they are hard on requiring them. Plus, what you took at a CC may not be as rigorous as EECS 183 here, thus you may even want to retake EECS 183 here if you really want to be a CS major.

If you are coming from a CC, it is really in your best interest to give yourself a chance to adjust. Sure C’s get degrees if all you care about is getting a degree, but a sub-3.0 GPA will shut you out of a lot of job opportunities.
