Taking Honors Art 2 if I want to major in CS

I’m a freshman in high school, and planning classes for my sophomore year. I plan to major in Computer Science.

I’m currently taking Honors Art 1, which will satisfy my school’s art graduation requirement. Do you think it’s a good idea to continue with Honors Art 2? I have a neutral feeling to it, but will take it for the sake of college admissions. It has little relation to CS, but could it make me look “diversified”? Further down the art path is Honors Art 3 and AP Art, but I don’t know if I will have the time to take those. If I don’t take Honors Art 2, I would instead take Intro to Web Design/HTML (would take this eventually anyway) and SAT Prep, and also change from normal French 3 into Honors French 3 since my course load would probably be easier.

Should I take Honors Art 2, and why or why not? I appreciate any insight!

Some universities require a minimum of 2 semesters of art as part of their admission requirements, so I would take Art 2 if another semester is needed or for your enjoyment.

Never take a class for the sake of college admissions. At the end of the day, they will be looking at your overall rigor, but not at your individual course selections; they don’t have that luxury of time. While you will slave for hours and hours on your college application, an AO will spend 10-15 minutes at most reading it.

Since you’ve completed your art requirement, and you don’t seem too excited about Art 2, there should be other classes that will excite you more.

Good point, I assumed that Art 1 was a year-long class. If not, and you are targeting UC’s, then yes, you should continue with Art.

No, if you want to major in CS, there are plenty of other classes you should try to include in your 4-year schedule for strong preparation, including AP CS, AP Calculus (preferably BC), AP Physics C, AP Chemistry, and rigorous English/social science courses such as AP Lit and APUSH.
