Taking Organic Chem at another institution in the summer?

Hi,
Im a rising first year and was thinking of taking orgo in the summer after the first year at some other university and I was wondering if generally the U of C allowed that like perhaps at Harvard Summer School.

I know somebody who did it. Took it at DePaul or some other school in Chicago over the summer. I have no doubt the real reason was to make sure they got an ‘A’, which they didn’t feel was for certain if they actually took it at UChicago. (They were premed and padding the GPA.)
The resume building students feel pressure not to take risks and take classes that might be a stretch since it could affect the GPA. A shame since that’s a great benefit of being at place like UChicago.

There is a procedure for obtaining transfer credit, but you would have to take an accreditation test and demonstrate to the chem department that your lab experience was sufficiently rigorous. It’s doable, but kind of a hassle.

Instead, I would suggest taking o-chem at UChicago in the summer after your first year (if you absolutely must take it during the summer). But bear in mind that you’ll probably have a research position, internship, or some other exciting opportunity over the summer, so keep your options open.
