Hi,
I plan to take Organic Chemistry at a community college for a fall semester. Can I simply just sign up at the CC to take the course or do they require prerequisites in order for me to take the course?
Thanks!

Usually there will be prerequisites (General College Chemistry). Are you a student at another college? You can meet the prereqs by showing your transcript from your other college or AP credit.
If you are taking Organic Chem for a pre-med program, you should be aware that some medical schools require OC to be taken at a four-year school.
This may not just be an issue with pre-med. First you need to check with the CC to find out what the pre-reqs are - most CC systems will have pre-reqs to take Organic (usually requiring demonstrating some mastery of inorganic concepts). Also, if you are hoping to transfer these credits to a 4-year university, the ability to do that will vary depending on the state you are in and the school where you hope to transfer the credits. Some states have clear articulation agreements between CCs and state Us. Others don’t. When it comes to private Us, they all get to make their own rules. Depending on your intended major, some schools may accept credit for Organic from other schools, some may not.
