Hi,
I will concurrently attend high school and take Calculus 1 and 2 Honor in community college next year. I know that Physics C is calculus-based course and I have already known it. I’m major in Engineer and want to know if I could skip Physics B and move to C instead. I heard that Physics B is for non-major and also worthless when I move to college. I need everyone’s advice about taking Physics C and studying the topic that does not include in this course at the end of the year.
Thank you.
If I were you, Id take both physics courses to demonstrate control on the subject. You may not have control now, but you certainly can work hard. Use MIT courseware and go through the material, that way the physics courses will be semster long reviews for you. Thats what I did with calc 1+calc 2 passed with A’s same semester.
There is no such thing as a physics B course. After the redesign, the exam has become more conceptual and was split up between AP Physics 1 and AP Physics 2.
You do not need AP Physics 1/2 before AP Physics C (as pointed out above, there is no Physics B anymore} unless AP Physics 1 is your first physics course. While in theory one could take Physics C with no prior physics experience, I would not recommend it.
Hi guys, thank you for your advice, my school still has Physics B course and it contains Physics 1 and 2. SO can I just skip this class and move directly to Physics C? thank you.
Your shot. You don’t have to begin with “Physics B” as many college students in engineering take the Calculus based physics course as their first physics class. I think the C course gives you a good enough detail of Mechanics and E/M instead of shotgunning all the other topics.
I don’t know what it is like where you live but in my county, you are required to take AP Physics 1 first, then either go into AP Physics 2 or AP Physics C, depending on the one you prefer. Since AP Physics 1 and 2 make up the AP Physics B component, I would recommend passing and doing well on AP Physics 1 and 2. But you probably can take the AP Physics C class as long as you are motivated and have taken already or are concurrently taking AP Calculus AB or BC.
Have a good day!
You MUST have a physics course before you take Physics C. However that course doesn’t have to be Physics B (or 1 or 2)- it’s fine to take Honors Physics first. physics C is the second level course so regardless of the way you call it you must take the first level first (makes sense, right? )
Ask your counselor because she will know the policies at your school
