Hello! I am a high school senior this year looking to apply to Cornell’s school of agriculture in the upcoming months. I read on the website that taking pre-calc is a requirement for the school, but I am trying to see if I should take it this year in lieu of an AP class. I can’t take both, as I still have two graduation requirement classes to take, and would rather not take pre-calc as I have heard it is basically a repeat of Algebra II. I was wondering if I am not able to take it, would entering Cornell through the school of Arts and Sciences be a similar experience to the school of agriculture for undergraduate studies? I am looking at a degree in biology, looking at animal biology or insect biology.
Yes, I would say take Pre-calc. It is required for admissions.
Definitely take pre-calc. Any STEM major at Cornell, regardless of college, is going to need that and frankly, most students are going to have AP calc on their transcripts.
Since it is a requirement for CALS you need to take pre-calc ahead of a non-required AP class. https://admissions.cals.cornell.edu/apply/first-year/ Agree that most students will have calculus on their transcripts.
I would also think as a STEM major you should take pre-calc for CAS. Again, most applicants will have calculus.
