Did many of you CCers take the SATs sophomore year? I know a lot of people take PSATs as a sophomore and I plan to start preparing for that this summer, but I heard the prep work is about the same, so why not take both? Is my logic shamefully flawed?

I took them sophmore year in June...just to get a feel for the test so that I could prep for it. I would recommend it; it helped me (although I got a bad score then).

I mean you don't want to take it too many times, as that, at rare times, is frowned upon, but go for it if you feel you're ready.

Also: Uh, there's no real point in prepping for PSATs as a sophmore, btw...they can't do much for you unless you need them for, idk, a summer program application or something? Junior year is the biggie and the NMSQT (although I was lazy and didn't prep Jr. year either). I mean begining to prep for SATs and PSATs during sophomore year is fine, good to start early--I just don't want you getting too stressed over sophomore PSATs.

I feel like a complete nerd for admitting to this, but I'm actually excited to start prepping. I have convinced my mom, after reading numerous posts, that I do not have to take a very expensive SAT prep class and instead practice by myself. I've read many things about CB's Blue book and I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival (already ordered). Wow, I feel extremely geeky, and can only hope this enthusiasm lasts me another three years.

I took SAT's sophomore. One old one and the new one. Didn't do too shabbily. You should take it to see your strenths and weaknesses.

yeah, if nothing else, you'll know what you need to work on.

I about died when I got my scores, so don't worry if it's not a 2400...mine went up Jr. year (not just a little, but by 230+pts) and I just took them and I'm sure at least 2 sections went up again.

Hmm. I think I will take it, but I'm semi-afraid of the results already. I have a very nosy one-year-older friend who likes to rub it in my face every time she does better then me (the whole, I'm better then you so you will amount to nothing kind of person). Maybe I will just take them in secret.

So the colleges won't mind if there is a super-low score for sophomore, if you improve jr/sr?

really depends on where you're applying;i should hope the score isn't "super-low," but it doesn't have to be great.

most schools only look @ your highest combined or at least your highest, and the rest, as long as you haven't taken it more that say 5 times, don't really matter too much. anyone have advice that supports opposes what I've said?
