What year did you first take the SAT?

I'm curious as to when many CCers took the SAT. Did you guys/girls take it as a junior, senior, or perhaps even a sophomore? What was your score the first time you took the SAT? I'm a sophomore now, and I want to take the SAT a few months from now. However, is that too early to take it? Should I just worry about getting good quarterly grades, or would taking one SAT in my sophomore year benefit me?

junior 10chars

i really think you should wait. just study for now like im doing. did you take the psat?

Hmmm... 7th grade? I think you should take it junior year. I was going to take it sophomore year, but I didn't want to risk it. Think about it. I know you can always take it over again, but in all honesty, do you really want to? Would you rather be prepared for the test, then go in and ace it? Unless you're prepared, don't take it now.

My DS first took the old SAT in early 2005 as a 7th grader as part of an academic talent search. He got 1160 M + V.

He took it again last year at the end of his sophomore year--basically stone cold unprepared as a diagnostic test. He got 1400 M + V and a 560 on writing (didn't realize that there were more questions, so didn't quite complete the MC portion). It was a great learning experience and helped identify where he needed to concentrate his efforts as he did do some studying for the PSAT.

With the occasional studying he did, he got a 218 on the PSAT. This would be NMSF in most states.

My advice is to go ahead and take the SAT this year. I suggest the MAY exam, since it offers the complete Question and answer service. Buy the Q & A service and use it to troubleshoot your precise problem areas. Then you can prioritize any study time you put into preparing for the PSAT.

Good luck in your academic pursuits.

Lmao, I took it first 4 years ago as a 8th grader. I got a 1550/1600... lucky as hell.

Oh, I actually took it in 7th grade too but I didn't really know what I was doing. I think I broke 1400 but barely.

I took it in 6th for first time. 1360/1600.

Don't take it unless you know you can't improve anymore. Most colleges say that they will only look at your highest score, but if you take it now and get a mediocre score, it will most likely hurt you.

One of the colleges I was looking at specifically said "Ultimately, it will be your highest score that we use to consider admission, but we do look at every score that you have to try to get a comprehensive view of your abilities."

So, a 2200 alone definitely looks better than a 2200 with a 1800.

BUT, collegeboard erases pre-9th grade scores from your record once you start high school, so you have nothing to worry about.

yea.. i seem retarded in front of you guys... i am a sophmore and just took the oct SAT test as a diagnostic and got a 1460/2400....... 470 and 480 M + CR. I gota pull that up by atleast 600 points by next year.

june test date after junior year.

There is no college that makes admission decisions this way. Every college is aware that students take the SAT at a variety of different ages.

tokenadult, this is directly from an undergraduate admissions page.

"If a student does take a single test multiple times or both the ACT and the SAT, we will ultimately look at all scores reported in an effort to get a true sense of the student’s achievement. However, as noted above, the student’s “official” score will be single highest composite score."

It is true that the highest score will matter the most, but it would be naive to think that they will disregard your lower scores, especially if there is a significant difference.

Which undergraduate admission page? Where is the link?
