taking SAT Subject vs. AP Exam

I notice that there are several SAT Subject Tests have same title with AP Exam's, such as

World History
Biology
Chemistry
English Literature
US History
French/Spanish

I wonder these two tests are on same level or not. Is that true that taking SAT Subject Test after its corresponding honor class while taking AP Exam after AP corresponding class?

Or SAT Subject Test has totally different scope from AP Exam?

If one took SAT Subject Test after AP class, can the result reflect the student's ability without AP Exam?

Thanks a lot!

It obviously makes the most sense to take the SAT Subject test as close to the end of when you are taking that particular course. I’m sure there is some positive correlation between scores but keep in mind some colleges use SAT II scores as part of admisssions (although a very small part), AP scores are not required for admission but by scoring high enough you can receive atuomatic credit for some courses once in college.
