Taking Study Hall?

Would it be a bad decision to take Study Hall as a class? My ASL teacher had to leave the school and we're going to have a sub for the rest of the year or at least a majority, so the school is allowing kids in that class to switch out. In my curriculum guide book it says "you shouldn't take this class if you are considering attending a four-year college or university" but does that just apply to the slackers? I could really use the time. Will the schools I'm applying to (specifically Brown, Vanderbilt, Rice, and Davidson) take into account my work load and my ECs? I'm currently taking 4 AP Classes and 2 Honors classes, Vice-President of NHS (this is NOT a slacker job, I have meetings with different people about our NHS activities and schedule almost every day and spend a TON of my time working on it), I'm taking virtual school on my own to fix my bad 8th grade Spanish I grade (a C), I'm volunteering at a local hospital, I'm seriously considering starting a club for students interested in the medical field for my own enjoyment and to give me that extra something for Brown, Vanderbilt and Rice, plus I try to have some kind of life. It could really give me some much needed time, and it isn't calculated into my GPA so it wouldn't bring down the credit I get from my Honors and AP classes.

Any advice?

I don’t think taking study hall is a good idea, especially if your school specifically recommends against it.

I would try to set up an independent study during that period. I actually have a study hall right now, and I use the time for an AoPS class. :)
