I was super excited because I signed up for Astronomy, which is a new class this year. Only to find out, however, that it is kind of a joke and is full of students that don't care about education. This isn't appealing to me at all.

I will ask my counselor what other options are available that I could switch into, but would it look bad for college admissions if I took a study hall? I'm not sure what other classes will be available, and this class isn't the most appealing to me anymore. Advice?

@TotallyTrudy I mean, it would be helpful since I have five AP classes this year. But I feel like taking the elective might look better. I admit, it would be an interesting class, but may not be challenging for me, and honestly I can’t stand most of the people in the class…It’s not the class I thought it would be.

@tigerman333 The problem is I don’t WANT an easy elective. If I did, I’d stay in the astronomy class. But I feel like it’ll just be a waste of time. Even in a study hall, I’d get homework done…

Don’t take an easy elective. It’s usually frowned upon, and it could bring down your GPA…even if you made a perfect 100. Is there any way that you could take Honors Astronomy or so? I’d take an honors class, but then again it might be helpful to just take study hall.

@tacoperson123. There’s no honors astronomy. The only honors classes at my school are AP’s, and every single one of them is a full year class. Plus, I’ve taken every AP I’m eligible for that is running and isn’t conflicting with my schedule in some way. You think I should take the study hall? It won’t look bad, will it?

Made the official change today! Here’s what my schedule looks like:

AP Physics 2
Study hall (1st semester)/speech (2nd semester)
Madrigal Singers
AP Biology
AP Spanish Language
Percussion Ensemble
AP Statistics
AP English Lit

I’m glad I dropped it too…the first assignment we got today was a few simple worksheets about exponents. Talk about an insult to any person who has completed an Algebra class…

Lucky kids astronomy, I recently transferred schools and heard from my past colleagues a new aerospace enginnering class was offered at my old school.

I decided to take the study hall in the end. I’m already taking choir and band, and I figure with 5 AP classes, a study hall is reasonable. Plus, as I mentioned above, the first day of class alone was insultingly easy. At least with a study hall, I can finish some homework and have more time for extracurriculars after school. Or even use the time to work on college applications!
