I was just thinking about my scedule for next year and I've always sort of wondered if top colleges look down upon study halls. I'll be taking AP bio, Calc AB, Spanish, English, and music theory, then concert band and phys ed, so I'm wondering if i should take an elective to fill the last period or just go with a study hall. What do you all think?

Take a challenging elective, not a dumb one, I assume they would look at you taking a study hall as not taking the most difficult curriculum, therefore it would be looked down upon

Take an elective. Some of this classes can be fun and enriching. I took creative writing, economics, journalism, web design, ms office, computer graphics etc... They are mostly 1/2 year courses. If not be a teacher's aide, which can also count as service hrs.

cool, thanks, I'm sort of glad you both said that because I want to take psychology and speech/debate but was unsure about whether that would be taking on too much. Yeah, i don't even like study halls anyway...

I think it depends on what you do during your study halls... if they're at the end of the day and you get out early to get a job that's OK... same with volunteer work.

At my school you can't get study halls unless you have over 4 APs and that is reserved for seniors only.

Is it really looked down upon?
Im taking a full year study hall cause of some scheduling confusion
Couldn't change to another elective

We automatically get a study hall in our school (we have seven class periods a day...not block shcheduling, with one elective). I find it really useful, mostly because I'm lazy and save all my homework to do during second period. :P However...I really, really wish we could take another elective sometimes. I'm jealous of my two friends taking AP Studio Art for their elective, because I'm stuck with band. :(

I have to have a study hall or else I would have to skip lunch to make up gym. I hate study hall, I just sit there, it's such a waste.

It is kinda of a waste of time. I end up taking 50 min. to do homework I can finish in about 15 at home
