So I'm taking the SAT on May 3, and I want this to be my final attempt. I'm aiming for above a 2100. I've taken so many practice tests and I'm at a 2070. My CR score is about 650, Math is 670, and Writing is 750. I really want to boost my Math and CR scores to like 700 (or more!!). For CR, I'm missing about 3 per section. Math, usually 1 or 2 per section (usually the last couple questions of the section because they're the hardest), but sometimes I surprise myself and get a perfect section. Anyone have any tips?

bump I need help, people.

Annihilate yourself with practice tests. For two weeks, (with my dad literally strapping me down and spoon-feeding me practice tests,) I did about 16 tests in 14 days. I improved my ACT from a 28 to a 33. I did the same thing earlier this year with my dad and improved my SAT from 1980 (first time, didn’t study), 1880 (second time; didn’t study, my dad got pissed) and eventually to a 2280 (third time). I think just getting used to the question for each test and improving your basic speed and efficiency is key for a higher score. I usually scored 750+ on math since that is my best subject (reading/writing were my worst) and I improved CR/W about 100 pts just by taking practice tests. This develops speed, and your body and mind gets used to the 4hrs+ of testing. While others got tired after like 4-5 sections, I was ready to go even after the 10th section. Just polish up on basic alg/trig and usually the SAT math is simple calculations but worded in such a way that it seems like it should be solved in a different way. Anyway, develop your own style and tactics to taking these tests, and aim to get faster. Instead of giving yourself 20/25 min for the section, why not give 18,16? You’re bound to hit a brick wall in the math section, so the extra time will allow you to hopefully get the right answer, or guess with a high percentage. There is no replacement for studying. Math is not too hard to raise so best of luck to you on May 3rd!

@Ha2ha3ha4, thank you so much! Math is usually not a huge problem for me, I usually miss about 1, maximum 2 per section. If I miss 2, it’s because I made a really stupid mistake. CR is a challenge for me. I’ve been studying some vocab and I do practice sections every day but I’m still missing like 3 or 4 per section and that’s unacceptable for me. Do you have any specific advice for CR? Btw congrats on your amazing score improvements, that is commendable!

@Ha2ha3ha4, your dad sounds great.
What practice tests did you use, if you do’t mind me asking?
(For SAT & ACT)

Use plenty of of practice tests. I went from a PSAT CR score of 700 to an SAT score of 800 in two months using the College Board Blue Book. I didn’t focus as much on vocab as I did on passage-based reading. One piece of advice I received that definitely helped me nail CR was to read the questions before hand, markup lines relating to the question, and write a brief one-to-three word description of what the question was asking.

For instance, if the question wanted me to identify the implication of a quote in the text, I’d underline the quote and I’d write “implies.” next to it. It doesn’t take too long, but it really helped me identify what I needed to focus on while reading. My SAT score ended up being 370 points higher than my PSAT score, and all I did was use the BB. Good luck!
