Taking the Pulse

How's everybody doing?

Things are crazy here. We've been locked up in rooms together for the last week (Saturday and Sunday included). I'm doing my best, as is everyone else in the admissions office, to remember the human beings represented in the folders.

BUSY! But, thinking of you.

Dan:

On behalf of all the parents, who are living with HS Seniors anticipating that certain email, we certainly appreciate your efforts, and hope with the nice weather coming that your weekends can become your own again as soon as possible!!!.

I am, somehow, not all that nervous. I think we’d all love to know a decision date though, if you have some ballpark. Thanks for considering everyone.

Thank you for the post. I (and probably many others) think that the wait is the worst part of the whole process–worse than writing essays, filling out apps, the randomness of decisions, etc.–so I really appreciate any update from admissions, even if it’s not a decision yet.

Dan - Are all the decisions made or are you still reviewing applications?

Neither Dan nor anyone else in admissions will say anything about when decisions will be done, other than to say they’ll be done by 4/1, until it’s “official” and public. Don’t expect any inside info, “ballpark” or otherwise.

Dan,
Thanks for thinking of us! We are thinking of you too! Hurry up and get to the post office Lol

Dan,
Thank you for this thread. Can you please confirm that all of this waiting and anxiety will be over by the end of April 1? Many thanks!

We will, baring a natural disaster (though, we still finished on time despite last year’s flooding), absolutely be done by April 1st.

@NJMom: We’re still working. Most years, and take a few days to double check all the work and make any last minute adjustments, then release.

In the past few years, Tufts has sent the notification email before the Ivies send out their notices and so I would expect Tufts by 3pm on March 30th…not AT 3pm but BY 3pm that day. We’ll see if I am correct in 2 weeks.

What I will say: we release later in the day so that we don’t disrupt the school day for most of our applicants.

OliveGarden,
all Ivy Decisions are at 5 P.M. right? (not 3 pm)

just confirming…

Yes, Ivies are at 5pm. Two years ago Tufts was at 3pm on that day and DanAdmissions did not deny that they would come out before the Ivies; he just said that they wait until after school and I presume 3PM would then be the earliest they would release as most schools are out by then. But who knows, maybe the day before? At least you will know before 5pm on March 30th.

Speculation has been driving me crazy, so I just try to think of all of the laboring admissions officers…so grateful they spend this much time on apps…thank you for all of your work.

Yes, thank you for all of your hard work and for your insights here on CC, Dan! I just want you to know that when I visited Tufts, you gave the info session and it was the best one I’ve ever had! You are a great advocate for the school and we all really appreciate it. I can’t wait for decisions to come out!

Thanks! I’m so glad you liked it!

Spirits are high here, and though the admit rate doesn’t always show it, the hardest part (by far) of the committee process is that the number of applicants the admissions officers loved is so much larger than the spots we have available. I know it’s a cliche - that your decision doesn’t necessary say anything about one’s quality as a person - but it’s remarkable how that notion rings truer and truer every year I do this.

Yes, thanks again to Dan! It’s great to hear a voice from admissions here amongst all the anxious students and parents. So, just to be clear—decisions go online after school March 30th? Or April 1st?
Thanks!

Thanks for checking in!

leeloo231: it’s not a very long thread to read.
