I have completed 2 year degree at a community college and I am trying to transfer to an in-state school (UVA, Vtech) or maybe else where. I know UVA requires an SAT score, but Vtech doesn't for its transfers. So now I'm wondering whether it's worth it to take the SAT in Jan. Would my SAT scores from Jan 2011 help me get into Vtech?

Also wanted to add that I have good college gpa, 3.9, but bad highschool gpa, 2.4ish. So, yeah, I just want to know if an SAT score would look better on my application at this stage.

I’m going to piggyback on your thread because I’m in a nearly identical situation. I have little to no HS records to go along with a 3.9 CC GPA after 3 semesters. I’ll be applying as a Junior but I can’t help but think that taking the SAT will only improve my chances (assuming I do well) but

Most schools either excempt you from requiring the SAT/ ACT if you have been out of HS after a certain amount of years or say that they do not want students sitting in on tests after they have been in college…

I’ll probably end up taking the test and hopefully the whole process of prep / registration / test won’t all be for naught.

I am in the same boat except I am at University of Houston which is a state school, I have a 3.97 right now after the first semester and I am confident I can keep it up. However my SAT score is HORRIBLE, I got a 1600 out of 2400.

I am starting to practice so I can do better and I’m sure I’ll be able to get a 2000, will I be able to get into Rice?

I haven’t heard advice on this one way or another… But to be safe, I’d just do it. It’s not going to hurt you - it’s not very expensive. All it can do is help out… they’re not going to deny you because you took it late (although a Junior transfer, it may be irrelevant)! :)
