So in January I plan on taking 3 subject tests which are Math 2, Physics, and Chemistry. I already bought books for them (Barron’s for Math 2 and Chemistry and Princeton Review for Physics) but the only problem is that I’m taking Chemistry right now. I’m hoping for a at least a 630+ in Chemistry considering I’ll only have half a year of honors Chemistry under my belt (can’t take AP at my school). I would just take Physics over Chemistry but the things is I was a really bad Physics student and scored a 530 on a diagnostics exam (yikes…). But I’m an amazing Chemistry student so I feel it will be easier to learn for me, what do you guys think? Do you think I’ll be able to hit mid 600s to 700 level? I feel like colleges would be impressed if I scored a 700 being in Chemistry for only half a year. I’m a senior so this is my last year. I have really good study habits so I can study for all three but I don’t know if its a good idea to waste my time studying for the chem SAT
I did well on the chem SAT but only because I took 2 years of it. I wouldn’t call it a “waste” of time studying for chemistry, because if you don’t study for it, you might as well not take it. Make at least an effort to learn from the Barron book, although as a warning, second semester Chemistry is harder than nomenclature, dimensional analysis, etc. beginning chemistry. Also, I remember the curve on chem is pretty low…so a good score will be dependent on studying
You’re taking your subject tests wayyyy toooooooo laaaattteee
Consider going to a private prep academy (Not Princeton, kaplan, etc… Good prep institutions) and take the SAT chemistry course. It’s going to be rough to crunch a year of learning into one month, so you’ll probably have to go every day with a good amount of dedication (3-4 hours) in order to learn the most.
Chemistry is one of those tests where you get a high score if you study hard enough.
But seriously… should’ve at least taken Math II junior year or something.
Yea I know but where I’m from there is no private prep academies, there isn’t much to help you for college. Unless you’re talking about an online course? I also took Calculus my junior year since there is no pre-calc at my school and I feel like the test is really different from Calculus
You seriously don’t have to go for any private prep academy to do well. I studied from Barron’s and got an 800 in chemistry. Just do as many practice tests as you can get your hands on!!
I started studying from Barron’s aprox. 2 weeks before the test day, but then again I take IB Chem HL so it was easier for me. Start today and review the concepts and you’ll be ready for it by Jan Barron’s overpreps you anyway. I scored in the 770s range in Barron’s practice tests and found the actual test wayy easier.
As for math-2, it is mostly pre-calc. Hardly 1-2 questions are from calc. How did you do calc without doing pre-calc?? I mean the name ‘pre-calc’ itself implies that it is done before calc right??
Lol yea that’s how it’s suppose to work but my school doesn’t offer pre-calc, or ap chem, or ap physics. And no IB so I at a disadvantage but I’ll try to get through those Barron’s books and hopefully I’ll do good.
