So I have been planning on being an economics major however I love educational policy and I either want to go into public policy or IR. I have been taking French since 7th grade, I van read French well I just need help with grammar and confidence speaking it. However I really want to learn Arabic, however I don't want to loose French. I can only take 4 classes my first semester and I need to take a calc course preferably during my first year fort Econ major. Should I take 2 languages my first semester I have been told that I need to start ASAP on Arabic, and if I want to go into public policy or IR will it look bad if not an Econ major? And decide on Econ minor instead idk...advice is needed I just hound out my faculty advisor is out of town so I won't be in contact with her when choosing classes so I wanted to get as much outside advice as possible. Thanks!

Yeah, why not? A lot of people study two languages and do just fine.

you don’t need to take classes in a language to become fluent in it. have you considered joining a club or something? i know the german club at my school meets every once in a while just to get together and speak german. i’ve completed all of the german language classes here so i’m planning on doing that for the next year in order to prepare for a possible internship in germany next summer.

Take the Arabic classes your freshman year and keep at them through college. Take French courses when you have room in your schedule. It sounds like you don’t have room for it right away, but you can review French yourself to keep yourself up to par for the semester or year in which you’re away from it.
