Talking to Professors

Hi, I’m visiting Brown next week and I definitely want to major in history. My special areas of interest are French Revolution and the Russian Revolutions. Does anyone on here know which professors specialize in those topics, and which ones would be the most willing to talk to me? Thanks :)

Great, thanks! Do you think they would be annoyed if I knocked on one or two of their doors for a chat?

Almost certainly not, as long as you're polite and seem perfectly willing to accept no for an answer if they're busy. Just don't act like you're trying to impress them or show off. Have real questions that demonstrate you're not just there for the sake of talking to anyone you can find.

thanks for the advice! I'll let you know how it goes.

The best thing to do would be to shoot them an email before you get here so they know you're coming. I'd be surprised if they didn't offer to meet with you. I met with a lot of professors (though not at Brown, actually) when doing my college search.

But if you don't notify them, they may be busy / not there if you just knock on their door.

Definitely email them first. A lot of professors just aren't on campus, or don't spend too much time in the office during the summer.
