Hi, I’m visiting Bowdoin next Tuesday and I love to chat with one or two history professors. Does anyone here know which professors specialize in the French Revolution or Russian Revolutions?

Any other special things I should try and do while I’m at Bowdoin?

I'm honestly not sure about the history professors... I haven't taken any history since I've been at Bowdoin. I'd try looking for an email address for a department head on the bowdoin.edu website, and seeing if you can contact him/her, if you are really hoping to talk with someone about the department.

As for while you're at Bowdoin, I'd say definitely take a tour, check out the food (but keep in mind that summer dining hall options are a little more limited than during the school year - Jack McGee's Pub & Grill is a good lunchtime alternative if you'd rather not dine with a bunch of random kids from Bowdoin's summer programs). And try to talk to a few current students, see the freshman dorms (they'll probably show them to you on your tour), and just explore the campus. Also, keep in mind that it has a very different feel in the summer than it does during the school year - so if you like what you see when you visit, consider coming back for an overnight in the fall.

I think Professor Herrlinger specializes in Russian History (I took a course with her), so it might be worth seeking her out, if she's around. However, I agree with smcf - definitely contact department heads first, don't just... show up at professors' offices.
