TAMU (College Station), UTD, or UT Austin for an Education major?

Hi y’all,

The title says it all, and I’m applying to these three schools, however, I don’t know which one I should go to. Which university is a better choice in terms of majoring in education? Of course, I’m still set on going to UT, but I want to consider on other universities as well.

Thanks in advance! (:

They are all excellent schools. You can’t go wrong with any of them. Have you had a chance to visit any of the campuses or meet with the departments? That might narrow it down if you have been accepted to all three and need to narrow down the pros and cons.

No, I have not been able to visit any of the campuses yet, I would like to if I can find a time.

What are you wanting to do with a education degree. Unless your going into administration I really don’t see the need to spend additional money to go to a school like UT for a education degree. If your goal is to be a teacher the prestige of the school will mean little. Having said this all three of choices are great schools. A&M will have a more conservative feel than UT and traditions are huge there. UTD has more of a professional/mature student feel. No football or frats on campus. It is completely different feel from UT or A&M. It really boils down to what kind of a college experience are you looking for.

Do any of the schools have a specialized education program?

@TXRooster I think UT does.

TAMU has a specialized education program, well regarded.

UTD will give you a lot of student teaching options, including privates, KIPP, magnets and charters. Dallas has very good starting salaries for teachers.
