Hey y’all. I’m a first semester freshman at Stephen F. Austin, and transferring to A&M has definitely been a thought lately. Not that I don’t like SFA, it’s just that I’ve always wanted to go to A&M, or at least I feel like I could be at a better school. I didn’t apply to A&M at first because I thought I had no chance of getting in. Now I’m at SFA and I’m doing decent. I’m taking 16 credit hours currently have two A’s and four B’s, and I will do everything I can to keep those A’s up, and try to ace my other upcoming exams. One of my classes are pretty much a lock for an A, and I don’t plan on slowing down so I’m looking at a disappointing 3.2 gpa at the lowest (initial goal was 3.8). I’m planning on coming back next semester for spring 2019, but I honestly don’t know what I’ll do after that. If I were to decide to apply to transfer to TAMU for Fall 2019 at some point, what would my chances be? Also, I’m hearing impaired and have been since birth, so would that affect my chances in any way?
To clarify, my current major is business but I’m considering changing it to something technology-related, like computer science or IT. I know my chances are slim if I try to transfer into the business school lol.
@rymose Follow a transfer course sheet of the major you are considering at any university. A&M is very competitive to gain admission as a freshman and harder as a transfer student, where your application is reviewed by the department you wish to join.
Without a 3.8+, your chances to transfer into Mays is not possible. It is that competitive. Summer and Fall transfer only. No spring. They only take 100 transfers each fall. Here is the transfer course sheet for Mays to even have your application reviewed. http://admissions.tamu.edu/admissions-staging/media/Main/pdfs-transfer2018/BUS18-Business.pdf
The College of Engineering is also competitive. Computer Science is a highly sought out major. You can only have A’s or B’s in your math and science classes. Here is the transfer course sheet for CS http://admissions.tamu.edu/admissions-staging/media/Main/pdfs-transfer2018/ENG18-ComputerSci.pdf

@Thelma2 thank you very much. And Yea I’m probably going to change my major to IT very soon, as soon as the coming week. Business just doesn’t interest me anymore; I’m not saying this because the Mays business school is impossible to get into unless you’re academically gifted, but it’s a major that’s boring and super mainstream. I think IT would be great because every company needs an IT person. Again, thank you so much!
