Tandon ACT Scores

Hey Guys I have a question about Tandon for anyone who knows about Tandon or goes to Tandon etc. I was wondering their ACT score range. I received a 26 (I am not the best standardized test taker). I have a passion for the school I know that shows in my app I was just wondering my chances alone with the ACT score! Thank You in advance!

the bottom 25th percentile is an ACT score of 27, while the top 75th percentile is a score of 31. this puts you below the bottom 25th percentile, so if I were you, I’d study & retake the test! if you’re somehow unable to retake it or choose not to, don’t worry about it too much and spend a lot of time perfecting your essays and additional parts of your application. one thing I would say though is don’t let your ACT score demotivate you or bring you down. loads of people with low standardized testing scores have gotten in because of great ECs, essays, and other supplemental material. and remember that a high GPA + low ACT is WAY preferable over low GPA + high ACT. GOOD LUCK

@brookemitchell Thank you so much for your answer! I am unable to take it again but I believe I have good EC’s I have:
Started/Founded a Hackathon
I am the leader of my Women in Technology Team
I Intern at a Makerspace building prototypes and making websites
Along with my internship I help local Law Enforcement track cyber crime criminals
I build desktops for those less fortunate
I am the Sergeant-at-arms for my Technology club (3 years)
And I set up safe zones in schools.

My Personal Statement was on being African American and genderqueer
My why NYU Essay was about what the school has done for me what I hope to do at the school and what it means to me etc. I feel it was very strong.

wow you have some really unique and excellent ECs! and your essays sound interesting as well. the admissions process is weird and very unpredictable but I personally think you have a good shot!

Your ECs are solid, but your low ACT will definitely hurt your application. It will, however, hurt you less if your GPA is good. For Tandon, you should have at least a 3.6 unweighted.

I do not believe it will hurt my application that much it is just a number after all. It might be low but I don’t believe that is all that matters you know. @koreanstudent

NYU’s bottom 25% ACT composite score of accepted students is a 29. Your 26 is too low. Test scores may not be everything, but they are still very important, specially for competitive programs like engineering. NYU’s common data set says they consider applicants’ test scores to be “Very Important”, while extracurriculars are just “Important”. GPA is also under “very important.” In other words, GPA and test scores are the most important and good ECs will not make up for a low test score below the 25th percentile. I highly recommend retaking the ACT; you will need a 29 at the very least and a 30 to be within safer range. If you have SAT scores, I suggest you send them instead if they are better. What is your unweighted gpa? As koreanstudent said, a good gpa may make up for a low ACT. Also, I would recommend going through the applicant discussion threads from past years to see tandon’s accepted student profiles and what they got on their ACT.

I appreciate what everyone is saying but I do not believe my score is “too low”. Not everyone is simply a good test taker. I have bad testing anxiety. But I have a strong academic record and my GPA is great. I do not believe the school is going to base their judgment alone on the ACT. I have a lot more to offer than just a number. Also while other schools might have 29 as their bottom I know of many people in the past that have gotten in with a lower score. Not many people post tandon stats which is why I am asking. @minzi98

It is true some people are just not good at taking tests. Being a woman will help you to get into engineering, since most engineering schools only have 20-25% women and they are trying to recruit more and more women. However, engineering schools also pay more attention to standardized testing than other types of majors, particularly math results. What was your sub-score in ACT and Science? Did you take SAT IIs in math or science? Did you take APs in Math and/or Science?

AP Calc horrid teacher I’m taking AP Comp SCI now my subscores were eh I couldn’t afford the SAT Subjects with the late fee and it was my last opportunity to take them~ a representator did come to our school though and told us they are a bit more lenient with test scores for ED1 Applicants @3CsinLife

I don’t know why people are posting data for NYU’s average. Take note that this is the Tandon engineering school, the average GPA,SAT, ACT scores are lower for Tandon students than the average shown on NYU’s website.
People who posts their stats on CC are usually skewed to the higher end so it isn’t enough to just look at post your stats threads.
The average ACT and GPA for Tandon students is 28 and 3.5 .
Being a URM and a woman greatly boosts your app for Tandon so its a match.

Thank you soooo much! @fitzy493

anyone looking at this now I got in!!

what is your stats?

what is your stats?

Did you apply as an early decision applicant? And did you use the additional information section in common app? Or did you try to explain why your ACT was below average?
