Target-MBA

So, this year I didn't get any scholarships for the colleges that I applied to in the US. So will apply for Grad school next time, most probably for an MBA degree. Could you guys tell me like what % or GPA I should be aiming for in college so that I get admission in the top 10 or 15 B-Schools in the US. Do they ask for our class 11 or 12 marks because I did really bad in 11 and will be getting around 65% in class 12. Also, how important is it to join clubs or do some ECs in college for and MBA. Also, could you please tell me ways which will make my application profile better so that I can start preparing from now. Will really appreciate any kind of help or suggestions. Thank you guys!!!

Also, will 2 years of work experience be enough to get in??

otaku,
going to a college in the states was your best shot at getting into a top MBA program in the US. You’ll be competing with a very cut throat crowd (Engineers from IITs with 780+ GMAT), and they seem to accept very few from India. It mainly has to do with the employment factor because Indians are not generally employed easily (strict work visa requirements), and if a B school accepts many Indians, its placement rates will go down. Also, the pool is vast, very v-a-s-t, more than the undergrad pool because the first thing that comes to mind of Indian who got rejected from undergrad pool is to apply for grad school (and most of them apply for MBA).

@peepingtom hey thanks for the info. Like how hard is it for an Indian to get work after an MBA degree?? Like is it almost impossible? because I don’t want to come back to India. Also, my cousin will be attending Arizona State University this year, is it possible to get a job after he completes his undergrad?? Thanks again!!!

It’s definitely not impossible, that’s for sure. The only thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of over qualified Indians vying for the same positions, let’s say that you got a BE and looking for a job, but for the same job, there’ll be a lot of Indian applicants with masters in the same field and plenty of experience etc etc. That’s why most of the work VISA is issued to Indians (almost 70%). You see, the govt has a visa cap after which it stops issuing visas for the year, most of those visas end up in the hands of an Indian but still there are many more left without a visa. So, overall, you need to go to a name brand school and be in top 10% of graduating class (to say the least) and blow away your interviewer (this is where most Indians are lacking).

The process is quite complex as the hiring company has to prove that there are no qualified Americans for the job and that it will have to hire abroad, I suggest you google “how to get a work visa h1b” and read every results especially Yahoo! answers and Wiki How. Also, don’t forget to refer to the US Embassy’s official website.

Thank you so much peepingtom!!!

My pleasure!
