I was wondering how often/if ever TAs teach classes. I haven't seen any mention of it.
Thanks!

TAs mainly help the professors grade assignments and lead recitation sessions. However, some of the humanities courses are taught by graduate students (however, those selected to teach classes are generally good teachers from what I heard). Some of the intro math classes may also be taught from TAs. However, I haven’t had any class so far (finished my first year at Rice) with any TAs.

It really depends on your field of study. I never interacted with the Sociology 101 TAs…they graded our papers, and that was pretty much it. Postdoctoral fellows teach classes like Research Methods (Sociology) and such, but as these people already have their Phds, I wouldn’t really call that a TA.

In General Chemistry, TAs lead discussion groups a few times a week where you can go for extra help, clarification on topics discussed in class, exam review, etc. But all the classes themselves are taught by professors.
