lobster, incoherent babble is on John Keats "to autumn".

this stuff is far superior to any of that concept album crap i was previously considering, and you can tell how much of a difference that makes (1 page of incoherent babble versus a measly 4 sentences for pink floyd.)

Haha Arthur. No i wasn't viewing it as a rant. I was feeling it. Like seriously. No offense to anyone on here but I feel like CC was designed for the sole purpose of Misery Poker. I know this is a skewed population and all, but what about the rest of the world....NOt everyone has 2400 SATs and perfect APs and all that. And sometimes this board overshadows that. People are afraid to even reveal their true identities because they got a B+ on a test. ITs ridiculous. AND BY NO MEANS AM I DEFINING EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD/THREAD AS THIS. Its just the real world is out there and SATs can only get you so far, and such a sheltered environment where the only risks ppl are willing to take is by applying to only reach schools without safteys. You end up with more problems than good.

So I appreciate your sincerity's and passion. Sometime WE ALL lose sight of it and shi.t I wish I was in the entertainment business too. Being in a movie was one of the chillest things ever (story for another time) but at the same time you see how artificial that world is too. :-/ I guess there really is no lesser of two evils, and the only "high" road is to not go to college like you Arthur :-P

Ooh Zachsta Fremont. I'm from Saratoga not to far away. What school you go to. And wait are you African American? My school is just screwed from the start Precent-wise <1% AA. 50/50% Asian White :/

DOnt get me wrong its not like I like diversity or something O.o rolls eyes

Gawd. This place ****es me off. (my highschool)

"sats can only get you so far." corey, i completely agree with you.

this is one of the strongest things i feel about, ever. going to school is about becoming the person, not making the grades. people always gape at me when i try to express this b/c they think it's hypocritical coming from me, a person who gets, well, higher grades than most.

but goshdamn. i really believe that a harvard acceptee could have a 5.0 cumulative gpa, 2400 sat's, and a million extracurriculars
and yet be wholly incompassionate and lacking in social responsibility -- in the end contributing little to society

it sounds kinda far-fetched, but i have witnessed an amazingly talented ivy-league acceptee near and dear to my heart drop out of college; the loss is understandably tragic.

in the end, its about intrinsic motivation and wanting to become valuable to society; if one obsesses so much about grades and misses the ultimate motive of learning to become a better person, once those outside motivations are removed, who knows what one becomes =/

dont want to sound like a preacher just a mini rant :]

haha the mini rant is only a blip in this thread of iimense nosequadors. :D

Im glad you agree with me Passion ;)

Its really sad. Both my parents went to Andover for boarding school, and so many of their classmates just burned out after getting into theiir ivys and stuff.

Sometimes ppl just need to step back and take a look at things.

One of my essays was written concerning our generation as a whole being overly obsessed with success. Because basically, you know, nobody is satisfied with being "average" nowadays.

I won't say anymore since apps aren't all in but eh, yeah. Let it be known that I feel strongly about the issue as well.

Mmmm yeah so you guys basically covered a lot of my conflict essay :/ Well at least it's good to know I'm not the only one who feels this way about quantifying success through SAT scores and perfect GPAs.

yall are making me feel way better. I got worried for a moment.
"Gahhhh my Sats are 2800s, i argued for extracredit gahhh" murdered by lurker

You know what would be really interesting to see, a graph that showed the stats (GPA and SAT scores) of TASP acceptees and rejectees... you'd be able to see whether ability to write great essays (at least in the eyes of Telluride) coincides with the way we often define intelligence (GPA/SAT). I wonder how much overlap there'd be...

I'm not taking any APs this year. =O!!!!!!!

Everyone is shocked and amazed by this, but as it turns out, going to a new prep school junior year does not a good AP environment make. I'll have a total of five by the end of senior year (AP Lit last year, BC Calc, Comp Sci, Chem and Photo) but this has to be some big secret?

Aida, I'll send you my essays this afternoon.

HA. I TOOK NO APs. Well, Spanish. But honestly, it's not a real AP class; we just CALL it AP Spanish. XD We just had none at my schoo'. lesigh
