@pubkid I wrote about the Count of Monte Cristo and about how taking an active role in one’s life leads to contentedness.
Really just wanted a reason to talk about the Count of Monte Cristo.
hopefully next saturday is the last saturday of this hellish wait…
@kurtbastian man i feel you so hard
Just got interviewed yesterday, haha. I’m pretty sure I’m one of the last people to get interviewed for all of TASP. It wasn’t bad, and I wasn’t nervous like I thought I would be. Hopefully that’s enough. My interviewer said that the results would come in by May 1st. Good luck to all of us!
My interview was extremely tough. The only stuff relevant to my app that the interviewers went over were my book list and half of an essay, nothing else. I was primarily grilled about current events. Lucky for me, I haven’t read a newspaper in over four months (can’t handle the dense format… try reading the whole NYT everyday and you’ll slip into a weird kind of news-paralysis). Interviewers were nevertheless impressed by my booklist. Like, more impressed by that than by anything else (uh oh). I’d rate my interview experience a 5/10.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the interviews aren’t given much emphasis, no? I heard during this process TASP mainly resorts to reviewing essays and finally checking teacher rec’s.
If TASP ends up going down in a burning wreck, then I think I’ll spend my summer interning at a bike shop. You know, something mellow.
i emailed the tasp office and was told the interview was given equal weight as the essays, but applicants in past tasp threads have mentioned their interviewers saying that the essays are more important.
@BulletPoet dude interning at a bike shop sounds super fun! my backup plan isn’t nearly as cool HAHA i’m just gonna be packing books for a college guy i know (who isn’t even paying me in real money…)
@persnicketylemon Hahaha real money? As oppose to the monopoly stuff?
My backup plan is probably to just take my math class at a college and not worry about it during the school year? Also DJ at said college’s radio station? That’d be kind of nice–but I really want to go to TASP.
@BulletPoet Really? I had absolutely no current events. My interview was about an hour long, 50 minutes of which were spent on just one of my essays. That was really weird. Like, the only time he brought up my book list or other essays was in relation to that first essay.
@Smargent he’s paying me in ice cream and coffee and rides HAHA
@pernsicketylemon Yeah, I really love bikes! All the complex parts get me going. I’m the kind of guy that likes to just go fast, so road biking is my thing.
Bikes are so efficient. There was a Scientific American article I read that was published in the 70’s which had a list of animals and charted how efficiently their bodies move across terrain; well, humans were pretty average, but when the wheel was invented our travel efficiency shot way up. When I ride a bike, I kinda feel a connection to that comparatively huge brain of our species that sets us apart from so many other types of animals out there.
ohmygod that was a wild ride from start to finish. thanks for the comedy relief @poehlerfey . now it’s back to worrying for another week. WE’RE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS NOW GUYS.
@poehlerfey You’re an idiot
In times of high stress, like pre-TASP results, we need to sensitive of each others’ nerves. That means no diatribes @poehlerfey.
@BulletPoet uh actually i think your love for bikes is pretty interesting–i’m not a big fan of bikes (having fallen off of them too many times HAHA) but honestly the fact that you love something people generally overlook or take for granted is awesome c:
@kurtbastian I KNOW I’M SO NERVOUS AHHH
@poehlerfey Out of curiosity, why did you compare the concept of you getting into college to a toilet? “clogging the toilet of me getting into college.”
@poehlerfey With the way you talk about public school, I hope you never, ever meet someone from there. We’d tear you limb by limb.
Does anyone know the specific date that TASP results will be sent?
@tiffal You should email them and let us know
@poehlerfey Suuuuure you do.
Anyways, we’ll probably know in a week. Just hold out, guys.
