TASP 2017

Now time to pray

i didn’t get the email about tap until december 20th, and by then i was already on my place to saudi arabia where i stayed until new years, and after that i had to scramble because i procrastinated on my rockefeller summer science research program application :slight_smile: and now i’m making my final touches at 9pm heh… good luck everyone!

Submitted!!! I hope you all get in, you beautiful people you

Is it okay if my list is kinda short but fills all the character limit? I’m not getting in lol but I’m just throwing my app out there

I could change it so I have more in my list but less description for each. Which would be better?

Hey guys quick question. For essay #1 and #3 how did you structure your essays? Since these essays are more personal and stuff did you write them more informally? Or for all the essays you guys just did formal.

hello literally just found this thread and stressing rn LOL but to answer your question @lynjak3, I structured it pretty formally, but I added my own voice to it? like it was conversational and in a formal way, like how an interview would be, but I still allowed my own personality to shine through it (occasional appropriate jokes and interjections from myself)

@lynjak3 I definitely didn’t write any of them formally, I just let my opinions and personality direct my writing. As for structure, I am still writing #1 but I am planning on just sort of listing and analyzing each experience included with a transition paragraph in between the ones with different themes (ex. first 3 experiences connecting to a theme, transition, next experiences, transition, next experiences, concluding paragraph).
And for #3 I just introduced an aspect of myself which caused my conflict as an intro, detailed the problem, and then discussed how i would redo it now and what i learned from it.

@lynjak3 I made all of my essays semiformal/informal. I wanted the readers to know that I was a real person. I think it will give me a better chance than just being formal and dry.

Did you guys leave any contractions in your essays? I know they aren’t formal but occasionally it just seems like it flows better with a contraction.

lmao mine are SO informal @divastar6 I think there definitely shouldn’t be any problems with contractions

@divastar6 I think i had a few

My essay #3 is so bad, aggh I’m gonna wrap up #2 now and submit

I hope this message makes you all feel better lol. I am probably the best procrastinator here, started the application the day it opened, now I’m struggling to finish. Watch me submit this essay in the last 5 minutes before deadline lol haha.

It’s less than 2 hours before the application closes and I’m planning on using every minute, as I’m still working on my 1st essay and need to proofread my other 2, @lynjak3 you did make me feel a bit better haha. After this I’ll just have to worry about tamping my hope down so I’m not too disappointed if I’m not part of the 5% that makes it to interviews.

Good luck to all. Remember, We’re one with the Force, and the Force is with Us!–(crappy Rogue One reference) PEACE!

when do they announce whether you make it to the interview round or not? and good luck to everyone!

@crimsondays Early March, I think

hey guys really quick–how long was your “very brief description of importance” for the books + extracurriculars

@hyperbola 1 sentence for all of my books, 1-2 for my extracurriculars, but all of them are pretty long sentences.
