@Optimism2018 well i think my essays were just straight up garbage lmao because i am a procrastinator, so i dont think that even if i have these special ECs, they mean much because they are looking for essay quality, and i dont think i delivered this time
welpppp I put like 8 ECs, feeling uneasy now
@cxnxicee well thats not necessarily a problem, i only put 3 because i explained the significance of each 3 in detail, if u put 8 and u think thats representative of u, then it will probably be fine.
also this is a bit of a double post, but after stalking CC for some time annd just recently posting, its so funny to see the usernames of people and to recognize them, like i wonder who the famous (or infamous) users are going to be in co2019 ^^
What did you guys do your critical analyses on?
@kungfukenny I can relate. My essays were nothing special too. I wish I could have seen some accepted TASP essays before I applied but I couldn’t find any.
@palinoia I did my critical analysis on Food Inc. because that documentary changed my life. It’s not that academic though, but oh well. Hbu?
@palinoia i did mine on this book called ‘the life-changing magic of tidying up’, which is a book about like a diff way to look at cleaning ur room, and more removing and donating away literally anything that doesn’t automatically give u happiness, so that ur room isnt cluttered.it was kind of how my perception changed regarding my own feelings towards the concept of having ur life well-held together. i used to be a very nihilistic, self-destructive kind of a guy (still have traces of those views but not as depressing) and i used to think that it didn’t matter how ■■■■■■ i treated myself and how i dealt with everyday situations, but realized that, similar to the room, my consciousness needs to get decluttered of all the derivative ■■■■■■■■ and i need to start paying attention to that kind of stuff.
did you guys try and keep a general theme throughout the app? my application kind of had a very general theme that a lot of my good and bad traits, and kind of my life story, stem from feeling repressed academically, creatively, etc. etc. due to the society and family i lived in and how my interests do not align with theirs, and so i considered TASP as both an escape and as a way to explore these facets of mine that I would have, otherwise, no way of fleshing out by myself. that was kind of the flow of my application, but i made sure not to make anything sound similar, because i dont want to sound overtly

I don’t think this has been asked yet, sooo…
What order did you guys rank the seminars in? Or if you don’t want to go into too much detail, which seminars were your first choices?
I personally put Facing Fictions as my first choice.
@Thundercrashbolt I put facing fiction, body, social justice movement, and then comics!
Dang, reading about what you guys are writing in your essays makes me intimidated as hell ^^; at this point crossing my fingers about march but if they don’t get back to me I honestly understand, y’all are amazing!
@palinoia I wrote about Max Weber’s “The Nation.” I contrasted Weber’s ideas on the origins of nationalism to my country’s nationalist sentiment and tried to really illustrate what it really entails and how it really isn’t a good thing. I would love to hear what others put!
What kind of books did everyone put? Did anyone put anything other than books in their media list? I had a ton of movies in there.
@riacchi Did everyone put mostly books in their media list? Because, rip, I put The Secret History, The Better Angels of Our Nature, two poetry books, two literary magazines, one news source, three pop albums, one movie soundtrack, three movies, and three paintings.
@waterlily77 I put 5 books, 7 films, 1 web magazine, 1 graphic novel author (with 1 notable work), 1 artist (with 1 notable work), and 1 classical piece. I’ve heard some people put like 10 books, so I’m kinda questioning myself. I tried to put things that I could legitimately go on tangents about.
New to this chat room but so nervous about the app that I have to reply:
I don’t remember how many books I wrote about… (does anyone know how to look at your submitted app now?) but I put a bunch of books (1984, a handmaids tale, Enders game, room and more) and authors (Jon Krakauer, David sedaris) plus some tv shows (3%)… looking back my book choices seem really juvenile… the list is mostly composed of pop culture books that were made into movies/shows recently along with some obscure YA lgbt fantasy, and most applicants seem to have sent in proper classic books and good literature…augh. I’m also pretty nervous because I thought adding comics/ manga to the list would be bad but in hindsight it would have been very helpful. Hopefully it’s enough!
Good luck, everyone!!!
Don’t be nervous about it! It’s not that big of a deal.
I personally put down 7 books(tinkers, the sellout, a book on criminal justice, what is the what and catcher in the rye and some other ones that I forgot… though ispecifially told them what inspired my liking to read and how the RL Stine series sparked that as a kid)
I also put down two YouTube channels, Meet Arnold and Prince EA(I thought these two spoke on my curiosity and passion for both politics and science)
And as well as some websites that were very general. Like omgfacts.com and ESPN. I also put down some movies.
As long as you put your personality and interests on the plate, you’re good to go!
Also, on a different note, I was wondering if any of you applied to any other summer programs. I was recently accepted to the Lean Gap program but I am not attending because it is very expensive and I would prefer to attend TASP or another program. I also applied to LaunchX and am considering applying to SSP and Yale YSPA. Where are the rest of you considering applying?
@@a015170s it’s (basically) all about the essays.
@a015170s you were given the same advice @Optimism2018 give you on multiple threads. No one can successfully chance you for any summer program because it’s dependent on the essays too. Please stop asking
@a015170s it’s all about those essays! I don’t think that TASP leaders care about standardized test scores as much as they care about what they see as your ability to learn from and contribute to the seminars, which they determine through your writing and ideas.
(your accomplishments and test scores are very impressive, though, so you have it made when it comes to getting into a fancy college :/)
Good luck to ya!
@Optimism2018 @MangoLover11223 thanks for the advice! Good luck to you guys too, if you applied
