TASP Finalist

To what extent is this useful on a college application. I've been wanting to ask this for a while, but have been distancing myself from my ultimate rejection (though I guess the first cut is the most brutal).

Obviously the most important part of the program is... the program. That being said, even making the final stage is a pretty big accomplishment--one of which I am especially proud, considering the effort I poured into the essays.

I don't want to seem like I'm padding my resume, because my application to TASP represented so much more than that. I feel the essays I wrote are truly among the best that I've ever written, and it was a joy to write them. That first cut itself is probably more selective than the vast majority of colleges, as such it does signify a good degree of competence.

At this point it probably sounds like I've made up my decision. However, I truly am ambivalent. TASP meant so much more to me than a footnote on the common app (despite never attending), and I don't want to be seen as a mere shadow of those lucky enough to actually attend.

Any thoughts?

Not useful.

You didn’t get in, it’s time to let go. It will not be helpful on your college apps and could be the opposite.

Several years ago my D got through the interview stage but didn’t make the final cut, she did not mention it on her applications.

Take the energy and talent you used for TASP essays and put it into your college essays, it will do you more good than listing a ‘not quite’ accomplishment.

Thanks. I feel I knew this, just wanted to make sure. I truly am looking forward to some of the essays (read: Uchicago)! Hopefully I can convey the same qualities that Telluride saw in my essays to the adcoms.
