Hey guys I'm at quite a dilemma here... so I am currently a junior this year in high school and I'm looking at meaningful things I would like to do this upcoming summer and the two things that have piqued my interest are the TASP program and taking a college credit course at a college. Here's the thing- I currently have a 3.56 (unweighted) GPA and the last time I took my SATs freshman year I got a 1690. Sadly, I have to be realistic and I know that I am not in good shape to be accepted into the TASP program. However, I do participate in many volunteer and extracurricular activities and also have many leadership roles. Additionally, I am an IB student taking 5 HL classes including Social & Cultural Anthropology. The reason I mentioned that class is because it has opened my eyes to what my passions are. TASP is a program that excites me- there is nothing more that I'd like to do than learn about history, society, political issues, AND be around like minded students who also have a passion for the world. My dream is to become a humanitarian and I'm working really hard to make sure I make the most out of my education so I can be prepared for what life throws at me.
However, as stated previously, I understand that realistically, my chances of getting into this program are low. Additionally, I heard that we only receive notification of our acceptance in May and if I don't get accepted I want to enroll in a college credit course. Is it too late to enroll in summer college credit courses by then? Should I just not apply for TASP and accept something more on my level?

If so, what colleges do you recommend a high schooler like me to look at for college credit courses? I'm looking to take classes related to either Spanish, Political Science, or Economics. I know colleges like Harvard, Cornell, and Stanford offer actual programs for high school students but those are expensive especially coming from Hawaii. Additionally, I'm not looking for a summer camp for preppy rich kids, I want to take part in a focused and rigorous program that I can gain knowledge from. If I enrolled in summer sessions at UC Davis or University of Washington how would that work? Would I be able to stay in their dorms? There was no information on enrolling into their summer sessions as a high school student other than the fact it was an available option.
