Enough with the questions about who gets a TASP App. It doesn't really even matter because you can download one online. I don't know why they send certain people apps, but it's a pretty irrelevent question.

My issue essay, well, it has something to do with my screen name. :) I don't know if it's any good, but at least I know that one sounds passionate, so it's not totally blah (every time I use a phrase like "totally blah" it occurs to me that TASP is probably going to laugh in my face when I send in my app, lol).

As for PSAT scores, I got a 225 in Colorado and didn't get an app in the mail. My friend got a 230 and did. Earlier on this thread, someone who actually works for telluride mentioned that they send apps to people based on geography and PSAT scores (and maybe race as well?). So everyone with a really high score gets one, but they also try to make sure all areas of the country are represented.

what course does everyone want to attend? im jazzed about the foreign policy, islam, and medieval romance.

did you actually write "totally blah" (or the equivalent)? i kind of tried to make the essays a bit more formal than usual (while expressing passionate views, of course lol)

^ foreign policy, medieval romance, cultures of writing for moi.
The islam seems cool but its not for everybody so..shrugs

I keep on writin' and writin' my essays but there's no advancement.
Everything except for critical analysis and specific topic is kinda done but i don't know anything about anything.

I'm going to die.

I really want to go to the Islam seminar. I'm a Christianity geek myself, but I really have a dearth of knowledge about other religions.
I also like Cultures of Writing and The Ties That Bind.

can a country be capitalsit with a socialist govt? where's the line?

But I'd certainly be happy to go to any of them.

i think the islam, even if you're not huge into religion, is a good one to do simply because of the rising muslim predominance on the world stage...

i dont know if id want to go to the ties that bind-- we learn a TON about that in school (im totally not saying its a less worthy or interesting topic though)

Any seminar session would be fine for me, I'm debating between cultures of writing or medieval romance. But as trite as it sounds at this point, its all about the people, no?

3 of my IB friends are for Islam...they're in the course of trying to make each other change their minds for "less competition"...:)

Anyone else here applying from Oregon? I'm curious.

Btw, I'm having a tough time writing about subjects that I'm interested in without either a) sounding corny "I have a love of such and such" or b) repeating "I'm interested in religion." "I'm also interested in such and such"
Anyone else having this problem?

(I have never spent this much time on this many essays in my life)

youre right about the people-- the intellectual community at my school is zilch, so TASP sounds awesome.

right now, my book list is the longest item. how sad is that.

well dont say what youre interested in straight out-- say what you think about the subjects, or what youre going tomajor in, or what youre going to do with a certain interest.

how much did everyone put on their book list-- mine is 2 pages single spaced-- should i cut it down?

The book list is not a significant part of your essays IMO. It's just to get a taste of what kind of reader you are. If you truly read that much, then by all means put it down.

I don't know about you, swimmerpolochic, but I'm finding it really hard to avoid the phrase "I'm interested in _______ because....." I mean, it's possible for me to talk about why I'm interested/fascinated/etc. and give support to my claim, but that first phrase often seems unavoidable.

Btw, my book list is one page, single spaced. More seems unnecessary...the book list is the one thing that I'm completely done with, lol.

Yeah. Remember, they say "read in the last year."

im so ****ed. I haven't looked at any of the essays except the booklist yet. On this past weekend when I was to do them, I got ill. Now, my fever is down but im still groggy as hell. I have to do my essays this week, I have exams tomorrow (ap bio and ap psych), its 7:00 and I haven't gathered the strength to walk downstairs to my backpack...and all i can think about is how its kinda funny being so screwed.

dont worry about it. online deadline is jan 26.
