swimmerpolochic- i didn't use the phrase "totally blah" in any of my essays, luckily, but whenever I say something like that, even conversationally, I feel like my intelligence level is dropping, lol.

re: your book list- if you read a lot, you should definitely include a wide selection of books on your list, but make sure they're all things you think you could talk intelligently about, because (from the experiences of some past TASPers) they may be brought up in the interview, if you get one.

My first choice seminar is the civil rights one. The others (especially islam and foreign policy) look interesting, but nothing compares to the civil rights one for me. I'm a big civil rights movement history geek.

If we're doing the online app, how do we send in the teacher rec and transcript? Do we have them individually mail them out or do we put both in a big envelope and mail it out together?

I'm doing the app online as well...the plan is to print out the "application sent" page, staple the ID pics to it, and send it off with my transcript/teacher rec.

swimmerpolochic:
Yes, the other three will be ugliest and most annoying they can find ;).

Mm... Essays:

For my specific problem, I'm writing on the philosophical question of the soul/consciousness O.O. My education one talks about my plans and what I want out of college, and goes on to explain why I would choose the majors I plan on choosing... And for my personal conflict one (I haven't started that one yet! oy!), I was thinking of doing something kind of common and mundane, but then I realized I had a freaky inner thing I could write about--and, although I'm worried about the TASP people finding me a bit off for it (oy!), it's one of those things that you know you're going to end up doing whether you want to or not XD.

are you guys SURE that there isnt an admissions advantage if u get an app in the mail, cuz i got one, but its kind of messy.... should i just print an app and fill that out instead?

I'm sure that even if there was an advantage, it would be nullified and reversed by a crinkled, mud-covered application XD. Just print one... Even if it does give some small advantage (after all, they do tell you to send in the original), it's probably not even worth mentioning--I'm sure it won't make the difference between getting in and not--, and you're better off just printing a nice, neat one and doing well on your essays.

woah the thread suddenly got really big. I finally finished everything except for the literary analysis which im kinda stumped on. Could someone please tell me about this picture that we are supposed to include, I dont remember ever reading anything about it. How big is it supposed to be and etc.?

Wait, so we have to print out the application sent page and then send in the rest of the app? Doesn't that mean that the application is due January 23, even if you send it in onilne?

I really do not think there's an advantage to sending in an app that was sent to you in the mail vs one you printed from the website. Even if they did think people with really high PSAT scores were better candidates, they wouldn't be able to tell who was a top scorer and who was just nominated by a teacher. So it's not important at all.

I believe that the picture is strictly so that a prospective interviewer can find you. Period. Anyway, if TASP were really a massive eugenics experiement, then they really failed in getting us to mate... :P

You guys are so flipping jittery about the minor details, like the picture or who was sent the app. But these things are completely insignificant compared to the essay. Worry about what you're going to say, not about how you were contacted by TASP.

Sorry, I hate to repeat myself, but I'd really appreciate an answer to my question.

No, we don't have to print out the app, we can submit it online. But the letter of reccomendation and the transcript have to be sent in by mail.

OMG!! I just typed up three of my essays and they are so short. When i wrote them out they seemed like they were two pages long, and after i typed it single space 12 font they are only like a page or a page and a bit. How long are your guys essays in 12 font single spacing? Guess im gonna have to work on them more over the weekend.

I don't think the picture is a big deal at all. Atleast I hope not, because I'm using this left over passport picture I took around a year ago and in it my glasses are crooked and my hair isn't brushed because I had just gotten out of bed. Way to make a good first impression.

I'm having trouble balancing style with content. I want to be interesting but I'm afraid I'm thinking too much on how I'm writing my essays and not putting enough meaning into them. And I don't think mine are intellectual enough either.

I just want to be done with them though. When I first got the application I thought it would be a good idea to get my English teacher to read through my essays, so I told her at the beginning of January and now I feel bad because she keeps asking about them and I'm no where near finished yet. Why did they have to make them due the week of finals?

My essays are pretty short, around a page. I'm not used to single spaced.
